Police ‘kill’ labourer

SAHIWAL, June 18: Police killed a factory labourer in a bid to grab his residential plot on Monday. Farid Ahmad owned a plot in Chak 135/A/9-L which one Rao Imran wanted to take possession of. Imran acquired the service of Grain Market police station SHO Rao Shafqat.

The SHO along with eight policemen and Imran went to take possession of the plot. Farid put up resistance on which policemen subjected him to violence. They fled from the scene when he fell unconscious. He died on way to the DHQ hospital.

Later, his relatives and neighbours staged a protest and blocked the road. They demanded the arrest of SHO Shafqat.

They dispersed peacefully on the assurance of the DPO that action would be taken against the accused.

Two killed: Two people were killed and 14 others sustained injuries while 25 mud houses collapsed in heavy rain accompanied by windstorm which lashed the district on Monday morning.

The rain started at around 1am and continued till 4am. The roof of a mud house in Bhanana village collapsed as a result of which a boy, Sultan, was killed.

A wall collapsed in Chak 116/9-L and claimed the life of an aged man, Karim Bakhsh.

The roof of a house collapsed in Chak 82/5-L, which left Farzand Ali, his wife, brother Ashraf and Nooran, injured. The roof of a house near Jahaz Ground caved in causing injuries to eight family members.

In Kot Khadim Ali Shah, Ahmed Din and Sabiran Bibi suffered injuries in rain related incidents.

Wapda transformers in Chak 89/6-R, Scheme No 3 and Hasanabad burnt during the rain causing electricity suspension.

Meanwhile, the residents of Husain Colony staged a protest for prolonged loadshedding. They burnt tyres and blocked Shadman Chowk causing traffic jam.
