Overloaded transformer causes outages

LAYYAH, June 5: There are frequent power outages as the main transformer of the Layyah grid station burnt due to overload.

The residents of the city had to face 10 hours’ power suspension in hot weather as Mepco could not make alternate arrangements.

However, it supplied electricity to the city through Eid Gah, Durrata, Sugar Mills and powerhouse feeders. These substitute sources also could not bear the load and started tripping frequently.

When contacted, deputy manager Emanuel Sardar said a requisition has been sent for a new 10/13 KV transformer. It would take three days to get the new gadget.
