NAZIMS: A meeting of union council (UC) nazims said here on Tuesday that 34 of 64 UCs being led by nazims from opposition parties had not been given funds for community development projects.

At the meeting, presided over by UC nazim Lala Idris Ahmad, participants protested against the alleged discrimination and sought development funds at par with UCs led by nazims belonging to the ruling Pakistan Muslim League (PML).

They said that President Pervez Musharraf had announced Rs 8 million for each UC to complete development projects, but the government released these funds only to PML nazims.

They also said that coordinators would supervise developments in their constituencies, while PML nazims would themselves supervise these projects in their areas.

They said that no coordinator had been appointed in their UCs so far.
