SAHIWAL, June 3: Some passersby nabbed one of the bandits who were fleeing with booty after depriving the passengers of a bus of cash and gold ornaments on Sunday.
Reports said an air-conditioned bus (PR-1877/FWF) was going from Okara to Multan when some armed bandits, under the guise of passengers, boarded it.
They collected Rs0.145 million cash and gold ornaments from the passengers, besides 11 mobile phones, and disembarked the bus.
Some passersby chased the bandits and one of them having a licensed pistol shot injured one of them. He was handed over to Motorway Police.
Similarly, three armed bandits boarded an air-conditioned bus (LHR-9787) from Sahiwal, and when it reached near Harappa they snatched gun from the guard, Amjad. The outlaws then collected Rs0.3 million cash from the passengers, besides seven cell-phones, and left the bus near Harappa bypass.
The outlaws reportedly manhandled some women passengers when they refused to part with their ornaments.
Police suspected that both robberies were committed by the same gang.
HELD: Grain Market police arrested an impersonator who was receiving `fine’ amount from vehicle owners introducing himself as a traffic constable.
Reportedly, accused Ashfaq stopped a motorcyclist, Mazher Ahmed of Chak 90/9-L and gave him a Rs200 challan slip.
Mazher reported the matter to police who recovered fake challan slips from the accused and registered a case under sections 420/468, 471 PPC and 156 of police ordinance against him.
ROBBERIES: Armed robbers in various strikes in the district looted valuables and Rs1.74 million cash on Saturday night.
Four robbers took away Rs0.91 million cash and ornaments worth Rs0.125 million from the house of a trader, Tariq Mahmood, at Chak 24/11-L.
Three armed bandits deprived Muhammad Ashraf of Chak 16/11-L of valuables worth Rs0.111 million in a house robbery.
