LAHORE, June 1: The Sugarcane Growers Association has urged the government to convene a national conference on the sugar crisis. Speaking on Sugarcane and Sugar Polices at the National Management College here on Friday, a spokesman for the association said the industry was in crisis due to a lack of a sugar policy.

Sugarcane production in India had increased from 1,000 to 1,200 maunds per acre but had fluctuated between 350 and 450 maunds per acre in Pakistan.

PAYMENT: The Farmers Association of Pakistan has urged the Punjab cane commissioner to ensure payment of outstanding dues of Rs200 million by three sugar mills of Nankana, Sargodha and Kasur.
