LAHORE, May 30: The Lahore High Court on Wednesday issued notices to the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) and the State Bank of Pakistan on a petition requesting to place the names of Earthquake Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Authority (ERRA) chairman and his brother on the Exit Control List (ECL).

The notices were issued to ERRA chairman Altaf Salim and his brother Anjum Salim on the petition of Ahmar Malik.

The petitioner submitted that he deposited Rs5.9 million in Crescent Standard Investment Bank in 2004.

He contended that for one year he had been making transactions but in 2005, Altaf Salim, Anjum Salim, the then chief executive and director of the bank respectively, refused to return his money saying that the bank had stopped its business.

He submitted that he has been running from pillar to post for two years but could not get his money back.

He contended that the government had appointed Altaf Salim as ERRA chairman who had already defaulted on millions of rupees of the people through the bank scam. He said it was the height of irresponsibility and apathy on the part of the government that a person who had already looted innocent people was made the custodian of billion of rupees of earthquake victims.

He prayed that names of Altaf Salim and Anjum Salim be put on the ECL so that they could not leave the country after committing fraud.

STOLEN: A rickshaw was lifted from Liaqatabad, two cars from Kot Lakhpat and Nishtar Colony and three motorcycles from North Cantt, Civil Lines, Ichhra and Qila Gujjar Singh.

THEFT: Thieves broke into a house in J-Block in Model Town and made off with valuables.
