MUZAFFARGARH, May 30: Alleged rape victim and women’s right champion Mukhtar Mai will leave for South Korea to attend World Social Forum meeting on June 25. She will remain there for five days during which she will preside over sessions of the World Social Forum on peace and women’s right. Besides this, she will attend a number of functions by several organisations there.

During her five-day stay, Mukhtar Mai will also attend the launch ceremony of her biography, In the Line of Honour, Korean edition. Mukhtar Mai said First Woman of South Korea Kwon Yang-sook will chair the book launch ceremony. She said her biography had been translated into 22 languages while her publisher was working to publish it in 52 languages. She will also distribute her books with her signature among the participants of the book launch ceremony and the South Korean first woman will also be among the recipients of the book.

Meanwhile, District Monitoring Team Officer Syed Naveed Alam visited Mukhtar Mai’s school in Mirwala. On the occasion he said the government-run literacy programme would be initiated in Mirwala with the help of Mukhtar Mai.

Mukhtar Mai said she would help the government spread literacy in the country.

Demonstration: Hundreds of people who have been displaced by the construction of Taunsa Barrage held a demonstration and blocked road near Kirari Wala Bangla on Wednesday and protested against the irrigation department.

Their protest was organised by the civil society organisations which included Sindho Bachao Tarla and Heerak.
