GUJRANWALA, May 30: The city district council protested against the DCO for stopping development work and adopted a condemnation resolution unanimously here on Wednesday.
The council budget meeting was convened at a marriage hall and district naib nazim Jamal Hasan Manj could not reach the venue in time.
Liaquat Ali Bhatti presided over the meeting and started proceedings. Woman councillor Samina Zareen and others protested against Mr Bhatti and he left the chair.
In the meantime, opposition leaders Lala Idris, Mehr Arif Nadim, Saud Dar, Hafiz Khilji and Arshad Farooq started protest against the DCO and walked out of the hall raising slogans against him.
Later, the meeting started when nazim Fiaz Ahmad Chattha and naib nazim Jamal Manj reached the venue and tried to present revised budget.
Opposition leader Taufiq Butt and his colleagues began protest against DCO Manzar Hayat and walked out of the meeting.
A nazim of union council of treasury bench Yousaf Sandho gave a proposal that the treasury should not be a part of the opposition.
However, treasury members also started protest against the DCO after approving the revised budget. They snubbed minority councillor Riaz Masih who wanted to speak in support of the DCO and pleaded that no member of the house would favour him.
Some nazims Chaudhry Ilyas, Mian Wadood Hasan Dar, Ashfaq Gujjar, etc., alleged that the DCO stopped development work.
Mr Chattha and Mr Manj said the DCO should have apologised. They said a special meeting would be convened to review the situation and they would accept the decision of the house against the DCO if he did not apologise.
Mr Chattha said the DCO wanted to participate in the meeting but he stopped him to avoid any untoward incident.
