HYDERABAD, May 29: Several members of the district council boycotted its session on Tuesday in protest against refusal by the convener to allow debate on May 12 killings in Karachi.

District Naib Nazim Zafar Rajput who is also convener of the council chaired the session.

Council members Mehboob Abro, Zahida Memon, Yameen Soomro and a number of other members attended the session wearing black armbands as a sign of protest against Karachi killings and continued protest throughout the session demanding arrest of people involved in the carnage.

They demanded that the council should debate on the tragic incident but the convener refused them permission saying that the matter was sub judice and was being heard in the Sindh High Court.

On this the members boycotted the session and said there was no use of attending the session in which their viewpoint was not heard.

The government of Lathi and Goli (club and bullet) was suppressing the voice of people, they said accusing the Sindh government’s coalition partners of being involved in May 12 incident. They termed them a terrorist organisation.—PPI

Our Hyderabad correspondent adds: The session of district council was adjourned sine die by the convener for lack of quorum.

The council’s session was convened at Jinnah Hall of the City taluka municipal administration because the Sir Ghulam Hussain Hidayatullah Hall of district council is under renovation.
