MIANWALI, May 28: Protesting teachers used mosque amplifier on Monday morning announcing that the Punjab government had cancelled the class five examination. The trick, however, failed when parents approached the Education Department and were told that there was no change in the schedule. Up to 3,000 students took their papers at the Education Complex amid tight police security.

Dawn learnt papers had been leaked due to alleged mismanagement of the Education Department.

Also, newly-appointed Education Executive District Officer Chaudhry Nasir reportedly went on leave to avoid political pressure regarding the suspension of protesting teachers. Dawn learnt Mr Nasir is facing immense pressure from politicians to withdraw suspension of round about 20 striking teachers.

In his absence, Muhammad Farooq Khan, education district officer, supervised the proceedings.

He said had had given a message to teachers that without their participation the department could give papers.

Teachers took out a procession from Central Model High school which culminated on Kalabagh Road. They chanted slogans against the government for not accepting their demands. At Jehaz Chowk, their leaders Rafiullah Khan, Muhammad Sher Khan, Bhawan shah, Mustafa Sialvi and Tariq Shah addressed the rally and vowed to continue their strike till acceptance of their demands.
