According to residents, three suspects on a motorcycle entered the residential area of kiln labourers near Kot Pindi Das.

They intercepted Hafiz Latif in a bid to rob him. In the meanwhile, dozen of other labourers woke up and overpowered the robbers and started beating them.

One of the robbers, later identified as Zafar, was killed while his accomplices Zaman and Tariq were handed over to police.

The police, however, announced the incident as an encounter and the residents condemned the police attitude.

LIAQUAT BALOCH: Jamaat-i-Islami naib amir and MMA leader Liaquat Baloch said at a press conference here on Saturday President Musharraf committed a blunder by describing his uniform as his skin.

Even the British and German diplomats had discouraged the president in uniform and attributed it contrary to democratic system, he added.

He said the lawyers’ struggle to restore independence of judiciary and status of judges would bring positive results.

The road caravan on May 28 from Lahore to Faisalabad under the auspice of MMA would sweep out the government, he said.

The caravan would reach Sheikhupura on Monday afternoon and MMA leaders, including Qazi Husain Ahmad, would address the participants in the Jinnah Park, Mr Baloch concluded.
