LAHORE, May 24: Despite rise in producer prices, the Liquefied Petroleum Gas (LPG) prices have started falling due to increase in availability as a result of large-scale imports.

LPG Distributors Association chairman Irfan Khokhar said here on Thursday that gas prices had fallen to Rs45 per kg in Karachi and would come down to the same level throughout the country by Saturday (tomorrow).

The commodity was selling at the rate of Rs55 per kg in January when the prices started sliding after the Economic Coordination Committee allowed its liberal import.

He said prices had reduced despite the fact that the production companies had increased the wholesale rate by Rs3 per kg since January.

The production price of a domestic cylinder was raised from Rs404 in January to Rs440 in May. He said the price had come down because the marketing companies had been forced to reduce their profit due to availability of huge stocks.—Reporter
