GUJRANWALA, May 23: The Pakistan Telecommunications Company Limited (PTCL) Employees Union will go on a hunger strike on May 28 across the country to protest against retrenchment of workers by Itisalat Company and demanded that privatisation of the company be cancelled.
A meeting of union said the privatisation of the PTCL was not in the interest of workers and nation and the government had destructed all state-run institutions through its flawed policies. They expressed anguish over retrenchment of workers by the company.
STRIKE: The District Bar Association will take out a rally today against the Muttahida Qaumi Movement over Karachi killings. This was stated by Bar General Secretary Amir Munir Bagri.
HANGED: A condemned prisoner involved in a murder case will be hanged on today and jail authorities have completed all arrangements. Convict Iqrar Hussain killed Hafiz Farooq Ahmad over an enmity in Badoki Gosian a few years ago. A local court handed down him death sentence which was upheld by the Lahore High Court and the Supreme Court. The president rejected his clemency appeal.
ARRESTED: A union council nazim and his father were arrested for manhandling officials of the Wapda when a local court rejected their bail application. Accused Ghulam Murtaza and his father Muhammad Aslam beat WAPDA officials when they disconnected their domestic connection for theft a few days ago in Qila Dedar Singh.
