PESHAWAR, May 22: The Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz will observe the ‘Youm-i-Takbeer’ on May 28 to commemorate the testing of nuclear devices in 1998.

Speaking at a party meeting at the provincial secretariat here on Tuesday, provincial PML-N chief Pir Sabir Shah said May 28 was a milestone in the history of Pakistan when the country tested its nuclear devices for the first time. He said district and divisional chapters of the party would organise meetings and rallies to mark the occasion.

Mr Shah criticised the government for putting Dr Abdul Qadeer Khan under permanent house detention and forcing Nawaz Sharif, who had ordered testing of nuclear devices despite global pressure, into exile.

The PML-N leader held Gen Pervez Musharraf responsible for the May 12 mayhem. Ongoing incidents of suicide bombing were a reflection of failed domestic and external policies of the government, he added.

The party’s provincial general secretary, MPA Anwar Kamal Marwat, said Mr Sharif would soon be among the masses, adding that the government had failed to solve the people’s problems.

He said the PML-N would organise a procession from the G.T. Road to the Peshawar Press Club on May 28.
