KUALA LUMPUR, Feb 28: Indian coach Cedric D’Souza had to ask for a police escort after angry Indian fans threatened to beat him up following Wednesday 2-3 defeat against Malaysia.
At the post-match news conference he was asked why he needed security and he said, he would disclose that only if the journalists did not report it. The newsmen did not agree to it.
Malaysia’s sensational win over India was a birthday gift for manager Rajaratnam Dato Yogeswaran, who turned 62. “I told the boys before the game that I wanted this gift (a victory) and I am so glad I got what I had asked for. I couldn’t have asked for a better birthday present.”
Meanwhile, a man posing to be a journalist was handed over to the Malaysian police, chairman of the media and communications sub-committee Frankie D’Cruz told Dawn.
He made his way to the post-match press conference and asked Indian coach Cedric D’Souza several questions before the officials realised he was not an accredited journalist.
