FAISALABAD, May 16: German Ambassador to Pakistan Dr Gunter Mulack has said that his government is planning to start direct flights from Lahore to Germany and the project of setting up a consulate in the provincial metropolis is also in the pipeline.

He was addressing office-bearers and members of the Faisalabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (FCCI) on Wednesday. Scores of exporters and industrialists were also present.

Last year’s trade statistics indicated that Pakistani exporters had only 9.6 per cent share in German markets while imports were only 5.6 per cent, which was not beneficial for both the countries, he said.

Mr Mulack said bilateral trade volume could reach more than $2 billion, if exporters from both sides come forward and join hands for better business.

He said keeping in view the interests of Pakistani exporters in German markets, his government would soon establish a consulate in Lahore and start direct flights from the provincial metropolis.

Regarding the law and order situation in Pakistan, he said foreign investors could earn a lot from the country but it was the law and order situation which forced them to stay away.

He stressed the need for exchange of trade delegations to strengthen relations.
