Woman, son, daughter drown

LAYYAH, May 15: A woman, her son and daughter drowned in Tail Munda Canal here on Tuesday.

Rehana was going to her parents’ house in Chak 360 TDA along with her son and daughter. On their way, her 12-year-old son Nouman felt thirsty and stopped to drink water from the canal, a major artery of irrigation system of the district, near Chak 290 TDA.

As Nouman sat on the bank, he slipped into the canal. Seeing her brother in trouble, Shabana, 8, extended her hand to help him get out and also slipped into the canal. Their mother jumped into the canal to save them but all of them drowned.

The divers have reportedly found the body of Rehana while search for the bodies of Nouman and Shabana were on.

LAWYERS PROTEST: The District Bar Association has organised a rally to protest against the “state sponsored terrorism in Karachi” here on Tuesday.

A large number of activists of opposition parties also participated in the rally.

The lawyers boycotted the courts and took out the rally. The participants raised slogans against the ruling junta and the MQM. The rally started from the bar room and at Layyah minor bridge, activists of the PPP, the PML-N and the MMA joined it.
