A false alarm works for police

LAHORE, May 14: A group of policemen, posted at Qurban Lines, had to ‘hire’ a private company bus to reach The Mall on Monday in aid of their colleagues for opposition’s rallies.

The bus (LRO-2509) was on its way to the railway station when three policemen signalled it to stop near Siddiq Trade Centre on Gulberg’s Main Boulevard at around 11:15am.

The driver could hardly open the doors of the bus when some 40 policemen appeared from behind the greenbelt and rushed towards the bus. That created a panic among bus commuters and some of them attempted to escape through windows, taking it a police raid.

Although the policemen asked them to remain calm, the commuters immediately started disembarking the vehicle.

The policemen ‘requested’ the driver to take them to The Mall forthwith and later they disembarked the ‘hired’ bus outside the Governor’s House.
