ISLAMABAD, May 10: Federal Minister for Inter-Provincial Coordination Salim Saifullah Khan on Thursday expressed deep concern over the murder of former provincial minister Syed Qamar Abbas in Peshawar and said that the Muttahida Majlis-i-Amal-led provincial government had failed to maintain law and order in the province.

Talking to newsmen here, the minister said that a series of murders and other acts of violence had taken place in different parts of the province, but the MMA government had miserably failed to establish its writ and to provide security to the people.

“It needs no further emphasis that economic development depends on law and order situation. The failure of the MMA government to provide security has shaken the confidence of the people in government,” he added.

The minister advised the provincial government to restore peace and stability in the province, so that the upcoming elections could be held in a peaceful atmosphere.—APP
