Robbers take away Rs4m from bank

GUJRANWALA, May 9: Five armed dacoits looted Rs4 million from a bank branch on Sheikhupura Road here on Wednesday. Reports said that outlaws entered the MCB’s branch, held hostage the staff at gunpoint and collected cash from the strong room. Intruders also snatched cash from the people present in the bank. They also thrashed guard Abdul Hafiz on offering resistance. The outlaws later escaped in a car they had parked outside the bank.

On receiving information, DIG (operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti and Nandipur, Khiali Shahpur town police officers reached there along with a heavy force. They got fingerprints of the accused and started investigation.

It may be mentioned that it was the fourth bank robbery in the city during the last one week.

SP MADE OSD: Taking a serious notice of the bank robbery, Punjab IGP Ahmed Nasim has ordered to make Khiyali Town SP Raja Hassan Akhtar as OSD for not making proper security arrangements under Shops and Establishment Ordinance.

A Punjab police spokesman said that the IGP had also warned Gujranwala DIG Khadim Hussain Bhatti in this regard.
