KARACHI, May 6: Two Air Quality Monitoring Stations have been established in the city with Japanese cooperation.

The first air quality monitoring station has been set up in Korangi Industrial Area and the other in Buffer Zone. These stations would gauge the environmental pollution caused by noise and smoke emission.

Sindh Environment Minister Dr Sagheer Ahmed said these stations would remain active round-the-clock and measure the quantity of gases on daily basis.

He said the government was undertaking practical steps for the provision of pollution-free environment. He said the ban against plastic bags had been made effective. Awareness was also being created among motorists regarding noisy and smoke emitting vehicles, he added.

Besides, he said treatment plants were being established for tackling the problem of industrial waste.—APP
