KS&EW to build $20m tankers

RAWALPINDI, May 4: The Karachi Shipyards and Engineering Works (KS&EW) will build two small tanker-cum-utility ships for Pakistan Navy.

A $20 million contract was signed by director-general munitions production with the shipyard.

The vessels’ primary role will be to carry out replenishment of ships at anchor and in harbour, torpedo recovery, act as attendant vessel during diving operations, perform towed-array transportation and mine-laying. The vessels are 47.2-metre-long with a displacement of around 1,600 tonnes.—Reporter
