HYDERABAD, May 3: The Sindh Taraqqi-Pasand Party (STP) Chairman Dr. Qadir Magsi on Thursday urged Japan not to offer any technical or financial assistance to Pakistan for building proposed water reservoirs including Kalabagh Dam over the River Indus.

Mr Magsi told the vice-consul general of Japan in Pakistan Takahiro Koyama who called on him on Wednesday night that any dam on the river would destroy 5,000-year-old civilisation of Sindh while Kalabagh Dam would benefit only the Punjab, said a press release issued by STP.

He informed the vice-consul of apprehensions of Sindhis about the construction of proposed reservoirs on the river and its subsequent repercussions on the province and its land and urged Japan not to offer any financial or technical assistance to Pakistan.

Mr. Magsi harshly criticised the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and said that the party had been busy hatching conspiracies against Sindh.

It was not a political organisation as it was being run by Gen Pervez Musharraf now, he said and added that free and fair elections were never held in the country.
