Wire theft causes 24-hour outage

VEHARI, April 26: The theft of electricity wire deprived the residents of Ratta Tibba area of power supply for more than 24 hours in this oppressive weather on Thursday.

Reports said unidentified thieves stole away over 2,000 meter electricity wire from the 11KV line on late Wednesday night. As a result, power supply to the area got suspended.

The Mepco officials concerned repaired the main line on Thursday, and claimed that the electricity supply had been restored to the area. But, according to the residents, about 40 per cent area of Ratta Tibba zone was without power till the filling of this report.

Some of the area residents, including Mubeen, Suhail, Gulam Husain, Amjad, Kabeer and Hakim Ali said they had informed the Mepco officials of the persisting outage in a large area but in vain.

When contacted, Mepco Vehari Circle Executive Engineer Attaullah Bhutta claimed that the electricity had been restored in the whole area. He, however, said that he would again inspect the affected site. The wire theft case had been registered by Saddar police.
