49 prisoners released

GUJRANWALA, April 26: As many as 49 prisoners were released by the district and sessions judge during his visit to the jail here on Thursday.

District and sessions judge Mazher Husain Minhas paid a surprise visit to the jail and got prepared a list of prisoners involved in minor cases. He ordered release of 49 inmates.

The judge also visited the jail hospital and inquired after the prisoners. He checked women barracks, jail kitchen and directed the authorities to provide better facilities to prisoners in accordance with the jail manual.

Jail superintendent Mian Shaukat Ali and other senior officers accompanied him.

CHINESE TEAM: Trade relation between Pakistan and China can be further promoted following exchange of business delegations.

This was stated by Kasghar trade centre chairman Chin Ji while speaking at Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) here on Thursday. He said quality products of both countries were popular in international markets.

Chamber senior vice-president Abdul Qadir Phulerwan and other industrialists welcomed the Chinese team and apprised them about exhibition of `Made in Gujranwala’ products.

POLICE CRITICISED: Traders of Ghakkhar Town staged a protest demonstration on Thursday against what they said police failure to arrest the dacoits who had looted four jewellery shops about two weeks back.

Reports said some dacoits made off with cash and gold ornaments worth Rs4.5 million from four jewellery shops.

Carrying banners and placards against the police, traders said the police were not taking interest in their cases after the arrest of Double Shah.
