Lawyers attack civil judge’s courtroom

BAHAWALPUR, April 24: Situation turned ugly here on Tuesday when angry lawyers attacked the courtroom of a civil judge, broke windowpanes and raised slogans against him for hearing cases despite their strike.

Reports said scores of members of district bar association gathered in front of the courtroom of Civil Judge Chaudhry Saeed Ahmed Akhtar. As the lawyers attempted to enter the courtroom, the official staff closed the doors of the courtroom. At this, the furious lawyers allegedly broke the windowpanes, and removed judge’s nameplate and raised slogans against him.

According to eyewitnesses, the judge, in a bid to protect himself, left the courtroom using the door of his retiring room. No complaint has been lodged with the police by the civil judge so far.

The striking lawyers alleged the judge began hearing of cases as they were demonstrating to express solidarity with the Chief Justice of Pakistan.

Meanwhile, the members of high court and district bar association observed complete strike on Monday to express solidarity with the suspended CJP.

The district bar members also brought out a protest rally from bar room and marched up to Farid Gate where their leaders addressed them. On their way back, the lawyers staged a sit-in at the GPO Chowk.

The bar associations also adopted resolutions condemning Pemra notice against Aaj TV.

VEHARI: Lawyers of the Vehari, Burewala, and Mailsi bars observed complete strike.

Protest leaders said that their struggle would be continue till the restoration of CJP.

PPP activists who also took out a rally were baton charged.

OKARA: The Okara District Bar members took out a big rally which paraded various bazaars. They were welcomed on the way by activists of PPP and other parties.

Earlier on Monday night, police arrested eight activists of political parties to stop them from mustering support for Tuesday’s anti-government rallies.

Among the arrested were MMA district president Dr Liaqat Ali Kusar and JI district amir Sh Azhar Mehmood.

GUJRANWALA: A lawyers delegation, including a woman member of the Lahore

District Bar, reached the city on foot on Tuesday to a warm welcome.

Mian Saeed Ahmad, Navidul Zafer, Chaudhry Yaqoob, Ms Feroza Rubab, Syed Azher Hussain Shah, Mr Mazher and Muhammad Ramzan will walk up to the residence of CJP in Islamabad.

The district bar meanwhile observed complete strike.

FAISALABAD: Lawyers took out a protest rally from the bar premises to the Kutchery Bazaar.

They vowed to continue their protest till the supremacy of the judiciary.

Earlier, the DBA meeting adopted a resolution condemning action against the CJP and demanded his immediate reinstatement. The DBA hunger strike camp also continued.

SIALKOT: Lawyers took out anti-government rallies in Sialkot, Daska, Pasrur, Shakargarh and Narowal.

Sheikhupura: Lawyers boycotted courts in Nankana Sahib and Sheikhupura and took put processions.

SAHIWAL: The lawyers took out a protest procession and staged sit-in before the offices of the district nazim.
