LAHORE, April 24: Iqbal Town CIA police claimed to have gunned down an alleged outlaw in an ‘encounter’ in the wee hours of Tuesday.
A police handout claimed that a resident of Samanabad, Munir Ahmad, called police emergency 15 at 2:30am complaining that an unidentified man, riding a motorcycle without number plate, had snatched his wallet and a cell phone at Doongi Ground, Samanabad, and went towards Iqbal Town.
It said on receiving the call, sub-inspector Mazhar Iqbal and his team, who were on a routine patrol in Rachna Block, Iqbal Town, established a picket near Jhauray bridge.
The police, the handout claimed, signalled a motorcyclist coming from the Moon Market to stop, who lost control over the vehicle in an attempt to dodge the policemen, but fell on the ground.
He suddenly ran and entered a groove near the LDA warehouse and opened fire on the police. In the retaliatory fire, the suspect was killed, the handout claimed.
The police recovered a snatched cell phone, a wallet, Rs4,000, a wristwatch, a pistol and an identity card from the pockets of the dead suspect.
The suspect was identified as Nadeem alias Bhola of Kotha Pind, Faisal Town.
The police record revealed that the accused was wanted in more than 40 incidents of street crime, it claimed.
