GUJRANWALA, April 20: The deputy district officer (water management) on Friday committed suicide by strangulating him with an electricity cable over “harsh attitude of his seniors” at the office in Naushera Virkan.
Reports said Muhammad Afzal Janjua, a resident of Mandi Bahauddin, was posted at Naushera Virkan. As he could not complete the target of construction of watercourses, his superiors (at the office) expressed displeasure over his performance and first served him notice and then transferred him to Lahore.
In a fit of depression over his transfer, Afzal allegedly committed suicide. Police said Afzal was found dead at his office, but there was no cable around his throat.
His son Muhammad Azam and a brother came to Naushera Virkan and took away the body to Mandi Bahauddin without conducting postmortem. They told police that Afzal was a heart patient and he got conducted his angiography in Lahore a few months ago.
GASTROENTERITIS: A woman died of gastroenteritis while about a dozen other people were hospitalised due to similar symptoms here on Friday.
Reports said gastroenteritis had erupted in the city and Kausar, wife of Irshad, had died of the disease. Most of those hospitalised were children.
Robbery: Six robbers snatched cash and gold worth Rs2 million from the house of an industrialist in Kamoki on Friday.
The outlaws entered the house of Rana Akram in the city, held the family at gunpoint, collected one kilogram of gold ornaments, Rs250,000 in cash, six mobile phones and other valuables and escaped with the booty.
Kamoki City police have registered a case.
