PESHAWAR, April 20: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has emphasised the need for evolving a mechanism in collaboration with the National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) and the Central Board of Revenue (CBR) to check car-lifting and identifying non-custom-paid vehicles.

He was speaking at a meeting at the chief minister’s secretariat on Friday.

Nadra chairman Brig Salim, IGP Sharif Virk, additional IGP (investigation) Fayyaz Toru, establishment secretary Mian Sahib Jan, Nadra Peshawar director-general Brig Anwar Khan and other officials attended the meeting.

The meeting was informed about Nadra’s newly-formulated policy titled “identification of vehicles and new tracking system.”

The chief minister directed that a joint meeting of minister for information technology and high-level police officials should be convened to find out as to how much benefit could be acquired from the tracking system to check criminal activities.

It was decided that initially checking and monitoring posts would be established at some important parts of Saddar area and increase in such posts would be carried out later.

Mr Durrani said that new sound systems should also be introduced on the GT road from Peshawar to Rawalpindi and Islamabad.

He said that anti-state elements were posing a serious threat to the national economy owing to lack of scientific ways to tackle their criminal activities.

The chief minister said that there was no restriction over woman photo on identity card and added that women who did not want to have their picture on the card should also be provided national identity cards.

He said that if the new system was enforced within limitation of government and people resources in place of old tracking system, the provincial government would fully support the approach.
