LAHORE, April 18: Eight deputy-superintendents of police were suspended while two SPs of the Punjab Highway Patrolling Posts were made officers on special duty for misconduct by the IG here on Wednesday.
A warning was also issued to all patrolling post officials that those found involved in corruption, inefficiency and dereliction of duty would not be tolerated and a strict action would be taken against them.
This was announced at a special meeting held under IG Ahmad Nasim to review the progress of the patrolling posts.
The IG issued suspension orders of DSPs Asif Jan (Hafizabad), Ameer Khan (Jehlum), Safdar Mehdi (Kasur), Zafar Mehmood (Sheikhupura), Nayyar Iqtidar (Gujranwala), Masroor Ahmed (Nankana), Muhammad Latif (Narowal), and Nasir Hussain (Pakpattan) on the report of additional IG, Patrolling Posts. SPs Masood Iqbal and Masood Tariq were made OSDs.
A committee was constituted under the supervision of Patrolling Posts Additional IG Tariq Saleem Dogar to rid the department of black sheep, which would scrutinise record and performance of the officials, besides recommending to the IG for the dismissal of corrupt officials.
Speaking at the meeting, the IG said a comprehensive action plan had been devised to convert police to a public service department.
He said only honest, committed and well-reputed officers and officials would be appointed in the department.
The meeting was informed that 200 patrolling posts were functioning on highways.
It was decided that patrolling posts officials would also help reunite runaway children with their families.
The meeting was also attended by the Punjab additional IG Azhar Hassan Nadeem, R& D additional IG Israr Ahmed, Elite Fore additional IG Javed Noor and DIG (headquarters) Altaf Hussain.
