LAHORE, April 16: Responding to a news report (Restoration of power supply to KESC suggested) in the April 15 issue, Wapda said on Monday that Syed Tanzim Hussain Naqvi, who retired from Wapda in 1999, was wrong in saying that availability of thermal power to the authority was less than 2000 MW.
It said: “Mr Naqvi has also quoted an inflated figure regarding the availability of IPP generation to be about 7000 MW. Whereas in reality, the availability of thermal power to Wapda has been around 2915 MW during the first half of April this year. This figure is the highest in the last five years. The availability of IPP power has been around 4800 MW only with the maximum of 4994 MW on April 6, 2007. The IPP’s actual capacity is 6108 MW.
“In view of these facts, claims that Wapda did not take steps to overcome power shortage or fully utilize its thermal capacity are factually wrong,” a Wapda press release said
