First women cadets get commission in army

ISLAMABAD, April 14: For the first time 36 women cadets were commissioned in the Pakistan Army as Captain in various branches other than Medical Corps on Saturday. The first batch of women cadets underwent six-month rigorous regular military training at the Pakistan Military Academy Kakul, along with their male counterparts and successfully completed the course.

President Gen Pervez Musharraf was reviewing officer at the passing-out parade of the 115th PMA Long Course and First Women Cadets Course.

The president congratulated the cadets who are now officers in Pakistan Army and termed it a historic event.

He also awarded Commandants Cane to Course Under Officer Wajiha Arshad for being overall best cadet of the course.—APP
