LAHORE, April 13: The Punjab Public Service Commission (PPSC) has maintained its credibility for the merit-based selection to candidates of jobs in the government sector. Governor Khalid Maqbool said this while talking to reporters at a ceremony to receive the PPSC report for the year 2006 by its chairman Tariq Sultan at the Governor’s House here on Friday.

The report said that the PPSC had received 126 requisitions in the year 2006 from different departments of the province to select 4,058 candidates.

It said that 88,580 candidates applied for these posts and the average number of applications per post stood at 22.

About 588 posts could not be filled because of non-availability of suitable candidates while the departments concerned withdrew 1,296 posts, it said. —APP
