PESHAWAR: Dr Qadir urges full use of

PESHAWAR, Oct 6: Information Technologies is being used in every walk of life around the globe and has effected everything. Pakistan will produce skilled and educated technical workforce to meet this need of time.

This was stated by the noted scientist and special adviser to the president on the strategic programme and the KRL affairs, Dr Abdul Qadir Khan in his address at the inaugural ceremony of CECOS University of Information Technology & Emerging Sciences, Hayatabad Peshawar on Saturday.

Governor of the NWFP, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah was the chief guest and the function was largely attended among others by the president of the CECOS, Dr Tanveer Javed, Dr Lutufullah, adviser to the provincial governor on science and technology, Dr Qasim Jan, vice-chancellor of the Sarhad IT University.

Dr A. Q. Khan on this occasion said information revolution continued penetrating in every field of life and has changed everything from national security to personnel privacy and from economic competitiveness to democratic participation in governance.

He said its impact on the world’s economy was unprecedented and in the US alone, IT sector had accounted for almost one-third of US economic growth, and had helped spark an increase in US productivity and global competitiveness.

Talking about the Pakistan IT revolution, Dr Qadir said we were however, only at the dawn of the information age and there remained much more to be done to grasp its potentials.

He said there was a dire need to use this new technology to advance our interests in lifting more families out of poverty by putting access to a world class education and cutting edge skills at the fingertips of every Pakistani. He emphasized we must create a market-led approach to e-commerce that could win acceptance around the world, promoting competition in the telecommunications industry and increasing our investment in the technology of the 21st century.—PPI
