HYDERABAD, April 10: A member of selection board and some associate professors have written to the governor of Sindh objecting to the way six professors (BPS-20) were provisionally selected by the selection board of the Liaquat University of Med-
ical and Health Sciences on March 20 this year.
The professors were provisionally selected by the selection board and the notifications in this connection were issued the same day by the university registrar.
However, a member of the selection board and syndicate of the university, Prof Ghulamqadir Kazi, who is also chancellor of Isra University, raised objections to the selection process before the governor the same day in writing, a copy of which was obtained by Dawn on Tuesday.
Prof Kazi informed the governor that he and a couple of other members of the selection board had sent several requests to the university authorities to provide them details about candidates before their interviews were held but their requests were ignored.
In the end he agreed to go take part in the candidates’ interviews on March 20 after the vice-chancellor made personal commitment that details would be provided to them, he said.
But like always, they were given details just a few moments before the candidates came for interviews leaving them with no time check their bio- data. Taking aside the merit, the selection board members were then briefed about who was to be selected and in protest he did not put his signature on the manipulated results, he said.
Prof Kazi requested the governor to take a “quick action for the sake of merit and university's honour and prestige”.
Two other associate professors (candidates) also challenged the provisional selection in writing.
The LUMHS Vice-Chancellor Prof Jan Mohammad Memon said on telephone that the selections were provisional and subject to approval of the university syndicate. They were merely recommendations and not binding, he added.
