BRISBANE, Oct 19: Wicketkeeper Adam Parore scored 100 not out after being dropped early in his innings as New Zealand drew their four-day match against the Queensland Academy of Sport on Friday.

New Zealand made 297 for eight declared and 296 for six declared in their rain-interrupted tour-opener while the home side, set a target of 327 to win, were 114 for two in their second innings at the close.

Resuming on the fourth and final day on 25 for one with an overall lead of 55, New Zealand were reduced to 110 for five before skipper Stephen Fleming, who made 68, and Parore shared a sixth wicket partnership of 158.

Parore, who hit 16 fours and one six in his 158-ball innings, said he appreciated playing in a pressure situation at the start of the tour.

The first Test of the three-match series against world champions Australia starts at The Gabba in Brisbane on Nov 8.

All-rounder Chris Cairns, returning from injury, is expected to join the team for their next tour match against an Australian Capital Territory Invitational XI at Manuka Oval in Canberra starting on Sunday.

The second day’s play was washed out.
