EAST LONDON (South Africa), Oct 19: Opening batsman Boeta Dippenaar hit 81 to help South Africa set India an imposing target, scoring 282 for four in their latest one-day international on Friday.
Dippenaar shared a partnership worth 103 for the third wicket with Jacques Kallis (49) as South Africa capitalised well on a rapid start largely down to the explosive shot-making of Herschelle Gibbs (47).
Gibbs flayed opening bowlers Javagal Srinath and Ajit Agarkar but his fine innings came to an end when he clipped Agarkar to Virinder Sehwag at square leg.
Gibbs faced 41 balls and hit seven fours and a six.
Jonty Rhodes (40 not out) and Lance Klusener (38 not out) forced the pace towards the end of the innings with a series of aggressive shots.
They took 16 off the 46th over bowled by Sehwag and 52 in total from the last five overs. Together the pair shared an unbroken partnership of 79.
