SHIKARPUR, April 5: The Senior Vice President of People’s Party Parliamentarians and former speaker of the National Assembly, Makhdoom Yousuf Raza Gilani, has said that ARD would continue its struggle till restoration of democracy and the constitution in its true form.
Talking to newsmen here on Thursday, Mr Gilani said that he and his party wanted to restore the sanctity of vote for restoration of true democracy as well as supremacy of law in the country, which were deshaped by General Pervez Musharraf.
He said that the only available option to the rulers was to enable the people to avail the constitutional and democratic right of vote to run their domestic as well as international affairs.
He said that 2007 was the year of general elections for changing the political situation and emphasized the need of an independent election commission to conduct free and fair elections in the country.
The people of the country wanted their president without a uniform who should be elected through a true and representative assemblies instead of the current rubber stamp assemblies.
Mr Gilani denied any deal with the government by categorically stating that the PPP leadership would not compromise on principles.
He questioned the presidential reference against Chief Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry, by saying that the sitting prime minister himself was a party in the Steel Mills privatisation case and some other issues and wanted to get rid of the CJ.
