GUJRANWALA, April 3: Punjab Housing and Planning Minister Raza Ali Gilani on Tuesday suspended Gujranwala former housing director, a sub-engineer and a clerk on charges of `illegal’ commercialisation of posh areas and formed an inquiry team.

Reports said several commercial plazas, marriage halls and other markets had been constructed in Satellite Town, People’s Colony and other posh areas without taking any no objection certificate (NOC).

The provincial minister asked about it from the respective officials during his visit here a few days ago, but they could not satisfy him. Those suspended are: ex-director Zafar Iqbal Paracha, sub-engineer M.Younas and clerk Muhammad Shahid.

The minister inducted the housing director-general, a chief minister inspector team’s member and CM task force member as inquiry officers and sought a report within 10 days.

At least 24 housing colonies were reportedly selling plots in the city without any NOC. The minister ordered that NOC would not be issued to any housing scheme having less than 20 acres of land. — Correspondent
