Indians want increase in trade volume

GUJRANWALA, April 2: A four-member delegation of Indian traders visited Gujranwala Chamber of Commerce and Industry and held a meeting with its president Rana Shehzad Hafiz and other office-bearers here Monday.

The delegation, led by Sanjey Bhatia, expressed that culture and language of both India and Pakistan were almost identical and traders of the two countries should enhance trade ties after reviewing markets of each other.

Members of Indian chambers said that their organization had some 45,000 members and was active in 11 states. They pointed out that the trade balance of two countries was Rs1.7 billion to Rs2 billion which could be raised to Rs7 billion during the current year.

They suggested that the trade should be permitted through the Wagah border to save time and expenditures.

Earlier, GCCI president and other office-bearers warmly welcomed the guests in the chamber.

TRAFFIC SIGNALS: Work on installation of traffic signals at almost all important city intersections will be taken in hand shortly as the provincial government has given an approval on the move of parliamentarian secretary Ms Nayyer Murtaza Lone.

This was stated at a meeting of senior traffic police officers here on Monday.

The meeting was informed that in the first phase traffic signals would be installed at Lohianwala by-pass intersection, Gondlanwala Chowk and Kangniwala by-pass on GT Road.

Meanwhile, the provincial parliamentarian secretary and chief traffic officer visited these places and reviewed the installation of proposed traffic signals.

It is stated that no signal has so far been installed in the city and the traffic police is regulating the traffic.

KILLED: A primary school student was killed in an exchange of fire between the two rival groups in Germola Virkan in Naushera Virkan on Monday.

Reports said that Abdul Hamid and Baber Ali groups were trading fire when a bullet hit Mudasser Hayat. He died while being taken to the local DHQ Hospital. Police have registered a case against both groups.
