KASUR, March 31: About a dozen brick kiln workers staged a protest demonstration on Saturday and demanded the arrest of outlaws who had shot dead three family members of kiln workers at Jalaykay village on Wednesday.

Reports said that Phoolnagar police had registered a case against nine accused, including Rana Nadeem, Rana Abdul Sattar and Rana Rizwan, for attempting to rape a brick kiln worker a few weeks back.

The outlaws, who were not arrested, had threatened the family of dire consequences if they did not withdraw the case. But the family had rejected their demand.

On Friday evening, accused Rana Nadeem, Rana Abdul Sattar and their accomplices came to the family’s cottage and again demanded the withdrawal of the case. On their refusal, the accused opened fire on them, killing Shahbaz and his wife Shamim Bibi instantly and injuring seriously his brother Hanif and daughter Fauzia. They were shifted to Jinnah Hospital, Lahore, in critical condition where Hanif died on Saturday.

Requesting anonymity, a brick klin worker said that the outlaws were a terror symbol in the area and had ruined the lives of several girls at the brick kiln.

Phoolnagar police have instituted a case and are investigating.
