PESHAWAR, March 31: The five-day training workshop on environmental impact assessment of waste disposal projects has concluded. Government officials and professionals from the private sector took part in the event.
The training was arranged by the NWFP Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) in collaboration with the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development, according to a press release issued here on Saturday.
The 11th session of the sector-specific training that comprised lectures, group discussions and field visits, provided an opportunity to the staff of the health, finance and planning, and agriculture departments and those from the Pakistan Academy for Rural Development to learn about the legal requirements about waste disposal projects.
Dr Mohammad Bashir Khan, director-general of the EPA-NWFP and Hameed Hasan of the IUCN gave lectures on the legal and procedural environmental impact assessment methodologies. During the training the participants were also taken to the site where solid waste is dumped routinely.—APP
