GUJRANWALA, March 30: Seven policemen, including an ASI, were booked for shooting an innocent person in his house in Dhulley here on Friday. The murder case against policemen was registered when heirs and residents lodged a strong protest.
Reports said that complainant Muhammad Bashir Warraich along with his friends was present in his house. In the meantime, a police team knocked at the door of shopkeeper Muhammad Amin, whose house was just in front of Bashir’s residence. As Bashir and his friends came out of the house and asked about their motive, the policemen started abusing them and later opened fire which hit Bashir’s brother, who was standing on the rooftop. He died on the spot. The police party later beat a hasty retreat leaving behind their motorcycle (GRF-6483).
Later, heirs and the area people gathered there and chanted slogans against the police.
On receiving information, some senior police officers rushed to the spot and got a murder case registered against ASI Ataur Rehman and constables — Sultan Butt, Ramzan, Azam Cheema, Iftikhar Ahmad, Qayyum Ahmad and driver Raza Hussain. The body was removed to the local DHQ Hospital for autopsy.
BUSTED: The district police claimed on Friday to have busted 28 members of nine inter-district gangs of dacoits and recovered a huge quantity of illicit arms and looted goods from their possession.
DIG (operations) Khadim Hussain Bhatti said that the arrested criminals were involved in 49 cases of dacoity, robbery and other heinous crime.
Those arrested were identified as Abdul Qayyum, Idrees alias Pappu, Amin, Yousuf, Shakeel, Asif, Rizwan, Dost Muhammad and Nasir Mehmood.
He said that police also recovered from them four vehicles, as many motorcycles, 20 pistols, eight mobile phones, three electric motors and cigarettes worth Rs1 million, besides six Kalashnikovs, 69 rifles, 72 guns, 417 pistols, 20 carbines and 116 revolvers.
The DIG also announced cash prizes and commendation certificates for four SHOs and an ASI for their good performance.
SUSPENDED: An SHO and a sub-inspector were suspended from service for their poor performance on Friday by City Police Officer Asif Nawaz Warraich during a surprise visit to Saddar police station, Wazirabad.
Reports said that the CPO suspended SHO Sadiq Pehalwan and SI Muhammad Mansha for they failed to recover Muhammad Akbar of Qudratabad village, who was shot dead by rivals after kidnapping.
CONCERN: BSc students have expressed their concern over a numbers of mistakes in the question paper of mathematics and demanded grace marks from the Punjab University administration.
At a meeting held here on Friday, students said that mistakes in four questions had confused them and most of candidates could not solve these questions as a result.
