KARACHI, March 29: Talented Zuhair Raza proved his mettle when he claimed a maiden triple crown of his career in the Sindh ranking tennis tournament at the CDGK Sports Complex on Thursday.

He opened his campaign by outclassing Hasham Khan 6-1, 6-2 with ease to grab the boys U-15 crown.

However, he was stretched to limits by Hasham Khan when the two again clashed for the juniors U-17 title. Zuhair was home 6-0, 2-6, 6-3.

Zuhair and Omer Shahid combined together to overcame Talha/Abdul Rehman 3-6, 6-4, 6-4 to annex boys U-15 doubles.

He succeeded in winning a double crown by pocketing boys U-15 and juniors U-17 titles in a Sindh ranking event last month.

Top seed Nomi Qamar was in a punishing mood as he handed out a 6-1, 6-1 defeat to Vinod Das to land men singles title.

Davis Cupper Nomi also picked up a double crown when he along with Asad edged past brothers Zuhair/Abbas 6-0, 6-2 to earn men doubles honours. The men doubles final was played after the closing ceremony.

Cash prizes worth Rs17,000 were distributed among winners and runners-up of the event.

The organisers should restrict participation of a player in maximum two events to avoid injuries and walkovers. Zuhair will burn out if he continues to play four finals in a short span of time as he had done on Thursday.
