LAHORE, March 29: J.E Austin Associates, a USAID-funded organisation, is organising an awareness workshop on EurepGap standards for the certification of Pakistan’s horticulture products at a local hotel on April 3. Buyers from Germany and the United Kingdom will discuss current market prices and opportunities in Europe at the workshop.
The EurepGap certification will provide agricultural products, especially the horticulture produce, an access to European markets and help Pakistan develop its position in the international market, said Shamoon Sadiq, the chief executive officer of the Pakistan Horticulture Development & Export Board (PHDEB).
He said the adoption of EurepGAP (European Good Agriculture Practices) would help increase the presence of Pakistani horticultural products at EU retail markets and super stores (Tesco, Sainsbury, etc).
The CEO said a comprehensive programme had been designed through enrolling farmers as components of Produce Marketing Organization (PMO), adding that the PHDEB would train PMOs for the EurepGap programme.
He gave out that more than 200 farmers had got themselves registered under the EuroGAP scheme.—APP
