HYDERABAD, March 28: Lawyers continued protests across the province on Wednesday against the president’s action against Justice Iftikhar Mohammad Chaudhry. In Hyderabad, lawyers brought out a big rally after boycotting court proceedings. The rally started from civil courts building and marched up to Pakistan Chowk before staging a demonstration outside the press club.
The High Court Bar Association (HCBA) President Abdul Sattar Kazi, chairman of executive committee of Sindh Bar Council Fazal Qadir Memon and other senior lawyers led the rally.
The protesting lawyers announced that they would observe complete strike on April 3 when Justice Iftikhar would appear before Supreme Judicial Council for hearing of reference against him.
NAWABSHAH: Lawyers boycotted court proceedings, observed a token hunger strike and staged a rally, which started from sessions’ court and culminated at the press club.
DBA President Ali Mohammad Dahri and Secretary Ziaul Hassan Lanjar criticised the statement of Sindh chief minister against Justice Iftikhar and condemned a lawyers’ convention held by him in Hyderabad.
They said that lawyers were united and had proved their unity by staging countrywide protests without seeking any help from any political party.
They vowed to continue protest till the reinstatement of Justice Iftikhar and added that the DBA would follow the calls of Supreme Court and Pakistan Bar Councils. Lawyers, meanwhile, continued token hunger strike outside the sessions’ court.
THATTA: Members of DBA boycotted courts for an hour and observed a token hunger strike within the district and sessions court premises.
The DBA through a unanimously adopted resolution pledged to participate in the rally announced by Pakistan Bar Council on April 3.
President DBA Izhar Ahmed Hashmani said that the nationwide struggle was gaining momentum and the judicial community would continue protest until the CJP’s reinstatement.
KHAIRPUR: More than a dozen lawyers including DBA President Shafqat Mahessar and Secretary Asadullah Maitlo observed token hunger strike outside the sessions’ court building after boycotting court proceedings.
They demanded withdrawal of presidential reference against the CJP and raised slogans in favour of resigning judges and deputy attorney general and called them heroes of the struggle.
MIRPURKHAS: DBA members boycotted court proceedings and lawyers Abdul Aziz Memon, K. B. Lohana, Mujtaba Jan Sarhandi and G. K. Rizwan observed a token hunger strike outside the bar room.
DADU: Lawyers boycotted court proceeding and staged a rally, which was led by DBA President Shafi Mohammad Memon.
NAUSHAHRO FEROZE: Lawyers in Naushahro Feroze, Mori, Kandiaro and Bhirya town boycotted court proceedings for an hour.
