PESHAWAR, March 28: The People’s Party Parliamentarians has claimed that holding of general elections by a caretaker government under an independent election commission now remains the only way out for Gen Pervez Musharraf.
Speaking at the party’s district convention here, which was held in the Auqaf Hall on Charsadda Road, PPP secretary-general Jahangir Badar said the general had launched a war against his own people to prolong his unconstitutional rule, but he would not remain in power for long.
He asked his party workers to organise themselves as 2007 was the election year and the ruling party had no option other than to hold a free and fair election.
He claimed that the masses were with the PPP, while only turncoats supported the rulers. The PPP was the only political force that could steer Pakistan out of the ongoing crises, said Mr Badar.
PPP provincial chief Rahimdad Khan said the rulers had made the life of the citizen miserable through their unwise socio-economic policies. He said unemployment, price-hike and lawlessness had turned the country into a failed state, but rulers were still presenting a rosy picture of the situation.
Mr Khan said the down-trodden would not allow the military rulers to continue with their exploitation on the one or the other pretext.
He alleged that the rulers were responsible for the uncertain conditions in the country.
