DARRA ADAMKHEL, March 25: Seven shops were damaged when a bomb went off in a hair-cutting salon in the main bazaar on Sunday, witnesses and officials said.

They said that the blast, which blew up the salon, caused fear among hairdressers and music and CD shop owners, majority of whom had already closed down their businesses following threats from local pro-Taliban groups.

However, in order to allay fears of the business people, a jirga comprising religious leaders was held in the Darra bazaar which declared attacks against private property and government installations as anti-Islam acts.

The jirga, which was attended among others by former MNA Maulana Hassan Jan, also discussed the security situation in the aftermath of threatening letters and bomb explosions in the gun-manufacturing town of the Frontier Region of Kohat.

Residents said that minor explosions were heard in the Zor Kalli and Shapalki villages of Darra Adamkhel. They said that explosions ripped through video and music shops. However, it could not be confirmed from officials.

Sources said that the political authorities were yet to take action in this regard.
