MUZAFFARGARH, March 23: Seven non-government organisations (NGOs), several mill administration, district government and villagers have made a cluster that will take up projects to mitigate pollution in the district.

The officials of the seven NGOs, Executive District Officer (Community Development) Malik Khair Muhamamd Budh and several mills administrators on Thursday formed the cluster, Green Muzaffargarh. The cluster aims at minimising pollution in the district by involving local people.

The EDO and mills administrators said that they would support the cluster to take measures for safe environment of the district. Under the cluster’s plans, tress will be planted along 16 kilometre Muzaffargarh-Mondka Road. The cluster will later build green belts along all the roads in the district.

Trees will be planted at every 10 feet while people living along the road will be responsible for watering and protection of tress. Once the trees are grown, they will be sold and the income would be distributed among the villagers.

Green Muzaffargarh President Zafar Iqbal Gurmani said the growing industrialisation in the district had polluted the air dangerously. He said it was the first step of this kind in the district and would become a role model for the entire country.

MASS WEDDING: Social worker Rani Waheeda arranged wedding of 15 couples at a ceremony in Kotaddu on Thursday.

People from all walk of life participated in the ceremony. Ironically, no members of the National or Provincial assemblies attended the ceremony. Waheeda said that she had invited all parliamentarians from Kotaddu to the mass wedding but no one attended it.

She said that she had arranged a mass wedding last year as well wherein 30 couple were married. Waheeda is a social worker, who with the help of local people arranges mass wedding to discourage dowry. She said she would continue her mission.
