KARACHI, March 22: Five people, including two women, were killed on Thursday in traffic accidents in parts of the city. Gadap police said two women and a man were killed and seven others injured when a passenger coach hit a trailer parked along the Super Highway near the Lucky Cement Factory.

They said the victim women were identified as Latifa Begum, 50, and Kammo Mai, 55, while a 40-year-old man remained unidentified.

The police said the injured were identified as Mir Daraz, Zeenat, Khalil, Mir Shah, Hafeez and Ibrahim.

They said the driver of the coach, which was coming from Rahimyar Khan, fled the scene.

A 16-year-old boy was knocked down by a hit-and-run vehicle in Baldia Town. His body was shifted to the Civil Hospital, where he was identified as Ismail, son of Roghan Shah.

Mochkoh police said the victim, who came from Swat, was an auto-mechanic living here at the Khyber Chowk.

They said the boy was crossing the road when the water carrier hit him.

An elderly pedestrian was killed by a hit-and-run vehicle in Maripur. The victim remained unidentified and his body was kept at the Edhi morgue.

Brothers of a woman, who died in the small hours of Thursday morning in her Mehmoodabad house, have alleged that their 27-year-old sister, mother of three minor children, was murdered by her husband.

Baloch Colony police said they sent the body of Zahida Bibi, wife of Mohammed Safdar, to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre for an autopsy after Ahmed Yar and Munir Ahmed reported to the police that their sister was tortured to death by their brother-in-law.

Hospital sources said the post-mortem report was reserved as the medico-legal officer, Dr Nasrin, sent the body viscera for chemical examination. They, however, said the body did not bear any torture marks.

The police said the husband of the woman had been asked not to leave the city till the post-mortem report of his wife.
